Tech Legal Counsel role focused on owning and negotiating technology contracts end to end, ensuring compliance and legal frameworks for a data and AI company. Remote work in Europe with a strong technology and data privacy emphasis.
About the company
- Albatross AI is a technology company building data-driven AI models, focusing on clear, business-readable contracts and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Own every customer contract end to end: draft, negotiate and close pilots, production agreements, data processing agreements, group agreements and partnerships, with marketplaces in Europe, the US, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
- Build and own the legal frameworks for the go-to-market team: templates, standard and fallback positions, a negotiation playbook, and a register of every commitment and renewal date, so Sales closes standard deals without you and escalates the rest.
- Own the data and model terms in every agreement: what we process, what we learn, what we keep, in language a customer's product team can read.
- Lead data protection and AI compliance: GDPR, the Swiss FADP, the EU AI Act, US state privacy law and international transfers.
- Run security and compliance reviews with enterprise customers together with Engineering: the vendor due-diligence pack, DPIAs and transfer assessments, SOC 2, customer questionnaires.
- Be the business partner to the CEO, Sales, Customer Success and Engineering: in the deal room, not after it, making sure every contract reflects how the technology actually works and stays short.
- Handle the rest as it comes: corporate and investor documentation for our next round, employment across 10+ countries, intellectual property, and the judgment to know when to bring in outside counsel.
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 6 years' experience: top-tier firm in M&A, venture or technology, then in-house at a technology company, ideally as its first lawyer.
- Experience negotiating technology contracts across the table from enterprise counsel and closed them: licensing, API and SaaS agreements, data processing agreements, partnerships.
- Preference for simple, clear contracts that people actually read; prefers short contracts.
- Strong understanding of technology including API specifications and data flows; ability to translate into contract terms.
- Deep knowledge of data protection law including GDPR, international transfers, and EU AI Act; contracts governed by Swiss law.
- Ownership mentality: takes initiative, decides important risks, explains legal matters simply, and closes deals effectively.
- Experience working cross-border with US parties and US law contracts; native level English drafting and negotiation skills.
- Eligibility to work in Europe.
- Ability to build and lead the legal function as a sole lawyer.
Conditions
- Europe-based: €100k-€120k gross salary.
- Full remote flexibility across Europe.
