Senior User Experience (UX) Researcher role focused on mixed methods to uncover customer insights and influence product development.
О компании
- We’re a team of builders, adventurers, and risk takers using technology to help people confidently explore the outdoors. Driven by our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone, we build products that optimize every outdoor experience and inspire confidence to get out and go further.
- We’re a high-growth tech company. The pace is fast, the work takes grit, and ambiguity is part of the job. As the world changes around us, we adapt - continuously evolving how we build, prioritize, and deliver.
- Our business moves quickly, and there’s real opportunity to shape what we build next. Each of our verticals - Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - is at a different stage of maturity, which means the challenges you encounter and the impact you have will vary depending on where you sit and what the business needs most.
- We operate with an experimentation mindset, continually iterating and improving how we solve problems. We expect our people to use the latest tooling, including AI, thoughtfully and responsibly, pairing human judgment with technology to increase quality, speed, and impact.
- Our impact comes to life through the products we build, in the stories of our customers, and in our growing commitment to land stewardship and recreational access.
- onX is seeking a Senior User Experience (UX) Researcher, Mixed Methods with a passion for uncovering customer insights and a track record of turning research into real product influence. Your focus will span the full product lifecycle, combining generative, evaluative, and quantitative research to build a holistic picture of our customers. You'll be part of our UX Research team, where we help onX build a deep, ongoing understanding of our customers, so product decisions are grounded in how people actually explore the outdoors with onX, helping our teams build with confidence. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic, growing company focused on making an impact on the business, and to shape how onX understands its customers at the moments that matter most. This role will serve as the link between what we learn from onX customers and how product and business teams act on it. This role will report to the UX Research Manager.
Требования
- A portfolio, work samples, or case studies is required as part of the application. It should demonstrate your ability to independently scope and execute mixed-method research and translate evidence into meaningful product and business impact.
- Eight (8) years of relevant experience, that includes at least five (5) years in UX, product, or consumer research, preferably in a fast-paced B2C product environment
- A Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD in Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, or related field or equivalent experience.
- A proactive, strategic mindset. You understand customers, the product, and the business well enough to know what's worth researching.
- Strong communication and collaboration. You explain findings, implications, and limitations clearly to any audience, and build real partnerships with Product, Design, and other cross-functional partners along the way.
- Proven mixed-methods research fluency, with the ability to independently design, execute, analyze, and integrate qualitative and quantitative studies to answer strategic questions.
- Experience across foundational and evaluative qualitative methods, including interviews, usability testing, diary studies, and other generative and evaluative approaches.
- Hands-on quantitative research experience, including survey design and analysis, sampling strategies, data-quality assessment, and applying descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Experience with UX measurement and Voice of Customer (VoC) practices, and interest in helping that work evolve and scale.
- Ability to juggle multiple research efforts at once, and adjust as questions, timelines, or business needs shift.
- A strong curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI.
- A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
- Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
- Ability to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.
Другое
- Independently plan and run research, both qualitative and quantitative, across the full product lifecycle to shape strategy and sharpen the onX customer experience.
- Know which method fits which question, and bring sound judgment to every call you make: balancing speed with rigor, weighing tradeoffs honestly, and making decisions that keep your conclusions credible and your team confident in them.
- Build deep knowledge of our customers and products so you can spot the right questions before anyone asks, challenge assumptions, and help shape product strategy and priorities.
- Build close, trusted relationships with Product, Design, and other partners from day one — understanding their goals and context well enough to spot research opportunities together and scope studies collaboratively, not just deliver findings at the end.
- Turn research into clear next steps — tell a compelling story with your findings and partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Business Intelligence, and Marketing to inform decisions.
- Act as a go-to advisor when partners are running their own research by weighing in on study design and methodology to help strengthen their approach.
- Coach non-researchers, contribute to shared research standards and practices, and look for ways AI can make our research faster, sharper, and easier to reuse.
- Use qualitative methods like interviews, usability testing, diary studies, and other generative and evaluative approaches.
- Design and execute quantitative studies, using descriptive and inferential statistics to turn survey, behavioral, and CX data into clarity we can act on. You'll also help shape how we measure UX more broadly, so teams understand how well our products serve customers at scale.
- Know when one approach fits better than the other, and when combining them gets you further — for example, working through a multi-phase study where each builds on the other to answer a bigger question.
- Continuously integrate qualitative, quantitative, and behavioral data to spot patterns, make sense of conflicting signals, and build a fuller picture of onX customers and how their needs and experiences change over time.
- Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
- Experience working in a democratized or enabled research environment
- Experience with data analysis or visualization tools like R or Python
- Proficiency with advanced statistics like regression, factor analysis, cluster analysis, etc.
- Expertise with advanced survey methods like MaxDiff, conjoint, Van Westendorp pricing or similar
- Genuine enthusiasm for the outdoors and how people explore it
