- A geo-distributed system routing proxy traffic across bare-metal nodes globally — millions of nodes, real traffic, real money riding on it.
- The infrastructure was built inconsistently with overlapping fixes and inconsistent patterns.
- Involves low-level networking challenges: routing, load balancing, protocol-level debugging.
- The team is lean and the impact of the engineer is immediately visible.
- On-call rotation is shared with one other engineer.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and fix incidents by identifying root causes and resolving them, not just coordinating responses.
- Rebuild infrastructure to production-grade including monitoring, alerting, deployment pipelines, and disaster recovery.
- Work at the network level to debug packet flows, optimize routing, and analyze latency spikes across regions.
- Automate manual repeated tasks by building systems for them.
- Drive own strategic projects by identifying structural fixes, proposing solutions, gaining alignment, and owning implementation end-to-end.
Requirements
- Networking fundamentals including subnetting, NAT, routing, DNS, TLS with ability to reason live through scenarios.
- Real bare-metal hands-on experience with physical infrastructure.
- Genuine curiosity about DevOps demonstrated by personal projects or initiative beyond assigned tasks.
- Proven habit of finding root causes of issues, with specific example stories.
- 5+ years hands-on in DevOps / SRE / Infrastructure roles; candidates with 3–5 years may apply but should demonstrate senior-level systems thinking.
- Comfortable with on-call duty and incident response.
Nice to have
- Experience with proxy protocols, traffic routing at scale, or CDN/edge.
- Experience with self-hosted ClickHouse, Redis, Kafka, MongoDB.
- English proficiency sufficient for live technical conversation; Russian is a plus but not required.
Conditions
- Fully remote, four-day work week.
- Compensation paid in GBP.
