Lead SRE team focused on infrastructure, reliability, and internal platforms supporting AI initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Ethos is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our SRE team in Bangalore. In this role, you will manage a team of engineers tasked with our core infrastructure, service reliability, and the development of our internal platforms—including the toolchains supporting our AI initiatives. You will oversee the technical roadmap, drive hiring and professional development, and ensure our production environments meet high standards for uptime, security, and cost-efficiency.
  • This is a hands-on management position. You will stay close to the technology—participating in design reviews and troubleshooting complex issues—while balancing the operational goals of the SRE charter with the emerging infrastructure needs of our AI platform.

Requirements

  • Management Experience: At least 4 years of experience in engineering management. This experience must be in high-growth organizations. Specifically, it should involve leading SRE, DevOps, or Infrastructure teams.
  • Technical Background: 6+ years of experience as an individual contributor. You should be comfortable working with Golang, Python, or TypeScript .
  • Cloud & Platform Expertise: Deep experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform . Knowledge with building or managing API gateways and model routing toolchains (e.g., Bedrock, Anthropic) is preferred.
  • Cost & Efficiency: Proven experience in managing infrastructure costs. This includes building metering systems. It also includes implementing large-scale initiatives to save on cloud costs.
  • AI Infrastructure & Governance: Experience building or managing toolchains for LLM integration, such as AI gateways, model routing, and governance frameworks (e.g., MCP) . You should have a solid comprehension of implementing security guardrails, including PII scanning and audit trails for model interactions.
  • Systems Knowledge: Solid comprehension of distributed systems, PostgreSQL, and observability tools like DataDog.
  • Execution: A track record of shipping complex infrastructure projects and managing service stability in a dynamic environment.

  • Incident Management: Oversee the incident response process, ensuring swift resolution of service disruptions and a high standard for post-mortem analysis.
  • Service Standards: Help teams define and monitor SLIs and SLOs. Implement practices like capacity planning and disaster recovery to ensure system endurance.
  • Operational Health: Manage on-call rotations and develop forward-thinking monitoring and alerting systems to detect failures before they impact users.
  • Scalable Systems: Lead the design and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure (AWS) using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
  • AI Tooling & Governance: Oversee the development of governed gateways for AI model routing. This includes managing model access, implementing audit trails, and securing data connectors (such as MCP) to prevent data exposure.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure that all infrastructure components meet security and regulatory requirements. This includes AI prototyping environments. You will achieve this by using automated scanning and restricting data access.
  • Strategic FinOps: Drive initiatives to optimize cloud spend across the organization. This includes standardizing right-sizing and spot instance utilization.
  • AI Cost Management: Implement metering and budgeting for LLM token usage. Develop cost-aware routing strategies to ensure tasks use the most proficient model for the job (e.g., optimizing between Claude Opus and Haiku).
  • Visibility: Establish clear cost metrics and attribution, partnering with engineering teams to build architectures that are both performant and cost-effective.
  • Automation: Oversee the development of internal tools, dashboards, and self-service platforms that reduce friction for product engineering teams.
  • Toil Reduction: Identify and automate repetitive manual tasks to improve team efficiency and focus on high-value engineering projects.
  • Team Development: Recruit, hire, and retain extraordinary engineering talent. Provide regular feedback and mentorship to support career growth.
  • Technical Strategy: Partner with product and engineering management to develop the SRE roadmap and align team goals with company OKRs.
  • Technical Oversight: Act as a subject matter expert for the team. Review architecture designs and technical specifications to ensure consistency and reliability.
  • Languages: TypeScript, Golang, Python
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD, Atlantis
