Responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of waste management operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory, including compliance and documentation.
Responsibilities
- We are seeking a Field Waste Management Technician to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory ! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico. This role is anticipated to be 6-months.
- Assist the LANL Waste Management Coordinator in the waste management process to include waste characterization, waste profiling, and shipping manifests.
- Manage all aspects of waste management operations, including waste loading, packaging, labeling, weighing, handling, inventory control, documentation, and final disposition/disposal in compliance with applicable regulatory and company requirements.
- Ensure the accurate characterization, tracking, and documentation of waste throughout the entire waste management lifecycle.
- Prepare and maintain all required waste management records, shipping documentation, manifests, and inventory logs to ensure regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
- Coordinate waste disposition activities with approved treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDFs).
- Inventory and document all waste types, volumes, weights, package identification numbers, and final disposition status including metal for recycle if applicable.
- Develop, maintain, and manage internal waste profiles, ensuring all required information is accurate, current, and compliant with applicable regulations.
- Update weekly reports as well as compile and complete the final report.
Requirements
- Education & Years of Experience – High School Diploma and 3+ years of waste handling experience to include knowledge of waste regulations, waste minimization, and waste packaging, labeling, weighing, and transporting.
- Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
- Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
- Must have at least 3 years of waste handling experience to include knowledge of waste regulations, waste minimization, and waste packaging, labeling, weighing, and transporting.
- Must have 40-hour HAZWOPER (29 CFR 1910.120), Hazardous Waste (40 CFR 261 - 268), and DOT HazMat (49 CFR 107 - 178) training.
- Experience with waste management process to include waste characterization, waste profiling and shipping manifests.
