- Join Crusoe Energy as the Principal Electrical Engineer and serve as the department’s technical authority on power distribution, power protection, and switchgear design. In this high-impact role, you will define the engineering standards and technical strategy for our modular integrated electronics buildings and critical power infrastructure.
- You will move beyond day-to-day drafting to architect robust power systems, solve complex protection coordination challenges, and lead the technical direction of the electrical engineering team. You will be the "go-to" expert for regulatory compliance ( NEC, IEEE, UL ) and the final approver for critical design decisions. While this is a technical leadership role, you will also mentor staff and senior engineers, driving a culture of technical excellence and precision. This role is open to relocation.
- Technical Authority & Strategy: Serve as the reigning SME for power distribution and switchgear design (low and medium voltage). Lead high-level system architecture to ensure reliability and selectivity for modular data centers and power distribution centers.
- Code Interpretation & Compliance: Act as the final decision-maker on complex code interpretations, ensuring strict compliance with NEC (NFPA 70) , UL 1558/1670/891/508A , and IEEE standards.
- Advanced Power Systems Analysis: Perform and oversee critical power system studies, including Short Circuit, Coordination, Arc Flash, and Load Flow analysis.
- Protection & Control: Design and validate complex protection schemes, selecting and configuring protective relays (SEL, ABB, etc.) to ensure optimal system reliability.
- Critical Design Reviews: Conduct deep-dive technical reviews of designs produced by the engineering team, serving as the final quality gate before fabrication.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Provide expert mentorship to Staff and Senior Electrical Engineers, elevating the team's technical capabilities and fostering future leaders.
- Engineering Standards: Develop and maintain the department’s electrical design standards, specifications, and best practices to ensure consistency across all projects.
- Cross-Functional Strategy: Partner with Manufacturing and Product Management to align technical capabilities with long-term business goals, driving innovation in modular power solutions.
- Education & Licensure: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE); Master’s degree (MSEE) with a focus on Power Systems and an active Professional Engineer (PE) license are strongly preferred.
- Industry Experience: 10–15+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, specifically focused on switchgear design and modular infrastructure.
- Switchgear Mastery: Deep understanding of switchgear construction, bus bracing, thermal management, and insulation requirements for both LV and MV equipment.
- Protection Expertise: Demonstrated mastery of power protection theory, including symmetrical components, relay coordination, fault current, and arc flash mitigation techniques.
- Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to lead technical teams through complex engineering challenges, providing authoritative direction and "first principles" problem-solving.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate complex electrical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, executive leadership, and customers.
- Safety and Compliance: This position is designated a safety-sensitive position and/or is located in a safety-sensitive facility. Drug and alcohol program participation is required.
