USAdata pipelinesapisdatabases
Build and own data and AI infrastructure, including pipelines, databases, APIs, and workflows for an AI energy startup.
About the company
- We’re building the AI Energy Agent that’s becoming the default way any business pays for power and saves on energy.
- The grid is breaking under the weight of AI and electrification — data centers are driving record demand, renewables are lagging, and energy costs are climbing 3x faster than inflation. Businesses are desperate for predictability and control.
- TrueMeter fixes this. We turn messy, multi-utility bills into a single, cheaper, fixed-price subscription — powered by AI.
- We launched our MVP in May 2024. Since then, we’ve onboarded millions in energy bills from great brands and proven that what we’re building… works.
- We’re Stanford-alum founders backed by top Silicon Valley investors, growing fast, and hiring an elite set of AI-native engineers to help us scale.
Responsibilities
- We’re looking for someone who loves building things from scratch — fast. You’ll own our data and AI infrastructure end-to-end: pipelines, databases, APIs, and the foundations for coding agents and LLM workflows.
- You’ll work directly with the co-founder/CTO, helping shape how data moves through the company — from raw energy telemetry to real-world business impact.
- This is a startup role in the truest sense: priorities change, speed matters, and the impact is huge.
Requirements
- AI-native — curious, self-taught, and excited about pushing the boundaries of what LLMs and agents can do in real systems.
- Nimble builder — you can ship an MVP in a short time, then iterate it into something robust.
- First-principles thinker — you choose tools based on logic, not hype, and can build an efficient and cost-effective infrastructure.
- Communicator — you can explain your work to both engineers and execs, and they’ll actually get it.
- Independent executor — you don’t need handholding; you define, scope, and deliver.
- Startup-aware — you know priorities will change, things will break, and that’s part of the thrill.
- Ambitious — you care deeply about impact and are willing to put in the work to want to help build something big.
- If you’ve built production data systems before (Python, TypeScript, GCP, SQL/NoSQL) and love learning new tools, you’ll fit right in.
Other
- 📍 SF Bay Area | Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 remote)
- Building high-reliability data pipelines and APIs to connect to dozens of utilities and public energy sources.
- Architecting databases and ingestion systems for time-series energy data, billing, and telemetry.
- Designing GCP infrastructure (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Secret Manager) for scale and cost efficiency.
- Building infra that allows coding agents and AI tools to automate workflows across the stack.
- Setting up CI/CD, observability, and automation to keep us shipping fast and clean.
- Documenting, communicating, and collaborating across tech + business — translating your work into impact metrics everyone can understand.
- We’re early — which means you’ll have real ownership, not just tasks. You’ll design systems that last, see your work ship in days (not quarters), and help shape a company whose vision is to redefine energy management for every business in America.
- We move fast, we think from first principles, and we care deeply about impact — on customers, the grid, and the planet.
- If that sounds like your kind of challenge, we’d love to talk.
