Responsibilities

  • Design and implement particle effects, environmental effects, and combat VFX in Unreal Engine 5
  • Create and maintain Niagara systems for gameplay, weather, and ambient effects
  • Develop visual effects that clearly communicate gameplay feedback
  • Optimize VFX for real-time performance
  • Collaborate with animators and designers to synchronize effects with animations and gameplay events
  • Maintain visual consistency across all effects and environments
  • Iterate on effects based on feedback and playtesting results
  • Troubleshoot and resolve VFX-related issues
  • Document VFX workflows and technical standards

Requirements

  • Experience as a VFX Artist or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine
  • Strong knowledge of Niagara
  • Experience creating combat VFX
  • Experience creating environmental and ambient effects
  • Understanding of materials and shaders for visual effects
  • Ability to optimize effects without sacrificing visual quality
  • Strong artistic sense of timing, color, and composition
  • Experience with Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or similar 3D software
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Nice to have

  • Experience with Blueprints
  • Basic scripting knowledge
  • Experience creating shaders for VFX
  • Understanding of post-processing effects
  • Experience with Houdini or other simulation tools
  • Experience in indie or startup game studios
  • Experience building pipelines and automation for VFX workflows
