Lunacy Studios, an indie game studio, is hiring a Senior Technical Artist to work remotely on a new 3D atmospheric exploration game, focusing on technical art, real-time VFX, shaders, optimization, and pipelines in Unreal Engine 5.

Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain technical art direction and quality standards
- Develop and optimize workflows, tools, and pipelines for the art team
- Set and enforce asset and scene budgets for triangles, texel density, materials, overdraw, and memory
- Develop custom shaders and debug shader issues across platforms
- Collaborate with Art, Code, Production, and Creative Direction teams
- Optimize assets and scenes for target platforms
- Track tasks and create documentation in Notion
- Support artists with integration and performance issues
- Attend team-wide and art-specific meetings
- Build, implement, optimize, and ship player-facing art systems in Unreal Engine
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional technical art experience
- At least two shipped titles
- Strong Unreal Engine 5 skills
- Expertise in 3D art production, asset integration, optimization, and rendering pipelines
- Experience with procedural content generation, VFX, and shader creation
- Knowledge of real-time rendering, materials, and lighting systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to document and explain work to technical and non-technical team members
- Familiarity with Perforce and remote workflows
- Fluent English
- Ability to produce work without Generative AI
Nice to have
- Houdini skills for procedural generation and automation
- Experience with 3D modeling, texturing, or general art production
- Technical animation background
- Experience with UI and 2D art implementation
- Strong understanding of PBR, color spaces, tone mapping, and lighting models
- Scripting or technical background with Python, C++, or editor tool development
- Experience with volumetric fog, water, weather, and atmosphere systems
- Knowledge of recent Unreal Engine features
Conditions
