SmartCat is an AI-driven company specializing in large event-driven systems. They are seeking a Medior or Senior backend engineer to build and maintain microservices handling high volumes of data, primarily using Java and Spring Boot.

Responsibilities
- Build and run microservices that handle large volumes of data.
- Connect services with Kafka and Avro, maintaining clean schema contracts.
- Work with various data storage systems (Cassandra, ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL, Redis) and handle schema changes without breaking functionality.
- Maintain observability of services and automate testing and deployment.
- As a Senior, own architecture decisions and mentor the team.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience for Medior, 5+ years for Senior, mostly with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience with Python or Go is a plus.
- Experience building distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven design.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka (Kafka Streams is a plus) and Avro with a schema registry.
- Good knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL; experience with jOOQ, Flyway, or reactive access (R2DBC / Project Reactor) is a plus.
- Understanding of production reliability: metrics, tracing, logging (OpenTelemetry, Micrometer, Prometheus), and fallback patterns (Resilience4j).
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes; experience running on-prem and OCI cloud; cloud experience with AWS, Azure, GCP is welcome.
- Security awareness with pen testing or red-team experience as a big plus.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests (using Testcontainers).
