USAHead
Lead marketing efforts for an AI-powered personal growth startup focusing on journaling and self-reflection.
Responsibilities
- Own growth strategy end to end. Bring your own conviction about which engines will carry the next stage. Not five bets - one clear thesis, executed with depth.
- Own creative quality across every customer-facing surface including ads, landing pages, App Store presence, push, email, social, and PR.
- Build and lead the creative engine. Generate hooks, angles, and artifacts at volume while editing ruthlessly.
- Develop deep ICP mastery and build a strong thesis around who users are, how they decide, and what language reaches them.
- Partner closely with the CEO on brand stewardship. For a therapeutic product, brand trust is the product.
- Design measurement scaffolding including clean experiments, honest baselines, compounded learnings, and rigorous testing frameworks.
- Own funnel performance across acquisition, activation, engagement, and retention in partnership with product.
- Direct and elevate external and internal creative talent including writers, designers, and agencies.
Requirements
- 8+ years of senior marketing experience with a portfolio of consumer brand work you can point to and defend line by line.
- Experience scaling a consumer subscription app from early traction to meaningful scale.
- Strong creative instincts paired with operational discipline and analytical rigor.
- Ability to write compelling copy and explain clearly why it works.
- Real interest in mental health, psychology, behavior change, or personal growth.
- Product-fluent mindset with strong understanding of engagement, retention, and consumer behavior.
- Strong brand stewardship instincts with sensitivity toward tone, trust, and authenticity.
- Preference for focus and depth over running multiple shallow experiments simultaneously.
- High-agency, low-ego operator who moves quickly and takes ownership.
- Personal connection to self-reflection, therapy, or personal development is strongly preferred.
Other
- Role: Head of Marketing Location: LA-based preferred. Remote considered for the right candidate, with willingness to visit LA for planning weeks. Salary/Compensation: $160k – $190k + equity
- Our client is an AI-powered journaling and self-reflection platform helping people deepen self-awareness, build emotional intelligence, and make visible progress toward the life they want. The experience sits at the intersection of journaling, coaching, and AI-guided reflection.
- They have reached 500,000+ downloads, 20,000+ paying customers, and $2.5M ARR and growing. The company recently raised a $6M seed round led by top-tier investors and operators.
- 75% of users report meaningful improvement within 7 days, and independent Stanford research has validated the product’s impact on self-relationship.
- The founding team has previously built and scaled consumer products used by millions, and has spent years working at the intersection of technology, psychology, and personal growth.
- The mission is deeply personal: mentorship and mental health support have historically only been accessible to those who can afford it. Their goal is to make that support significantly more accessible through technology.
- Our client is approaching a significant brand refresh and relaunch. The product is maturing. Unit economics are working. The team is small and the surface area is large. This hire walks into a defining moment - and owns it fully.
- This is not a role where you inherit a machine and optimize it. This is a role where you build the machine, set the standard, and shape what the brand becomes at its most important inflection point.
- This role reports directly to the CEO and is designed as a path to CMO as the team scales.
- $160k – $190k + equity
- Flexibility for the right candidate
- Remote flexibility for exceptional candidates, with willingness to visit Los Angeles for planning weeks
- Opportunity to own and shape marketing at a major inflection point
- Direct partnership with the CEO and path to CMO as the organization scales
- Chance to help build a category-defining consumer wellness product with meaningful real-world impact
- The mission is real. Our client exists because the founders experienced firsthand what transformative personal support can look like - and believed it should not require expensive sessions and long waitlists. That conviction runs through both the product and the team.
- The unit economics work. The engine runs. You are coming in to scale something that works, not repair something broken.
- Tier-1 validation. Bessemer, Tim Ferriss, Alexis Ohanian. The credibility is there.
- Full ownership. Small team, no layers, no brand committee above you. You work directly with the founding team. Every decision you make shows up in the product.
- The relaunch moment. Brand refresh, product evolution, new chapter. The right person will help shape what the brand becomes at a defining inflection point.
- A category where craft wins. Spend alone will not grow this. The marketer who wins here will do it with taste, depth, and genuine connection to the audience - not the biggest budget.
