Staff Software Engineer role at LawnStarter focused on product engineering with ownership of full lifecycle including AI-assisted code implementation. Remote position for candidates in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
About the company
- LawnStarter is the nation's leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, with over $100M in annual bookings.
- Expanding beyond lawn care to become the one-stop shop for all home services — operating across three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, Home Gnome) on a single shared platform.
About the product
- Engineering at LawnStarter builds in small, focused initiative teams: a Product Engineer working alongside a PM and a designer, supported by an Engineering Manager.
- Team owns whether the work moves its metric.
- AI coding agents are used as a force multiplier to ship more, faster, with high quality.
- The role is to work as the engineering anchor of an initiative with end-to-end ownership from problem shaping to outcome ownership.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical approach — architecture, data model, integration choices, rollout plan, observability, and rollback strategy for your initiative.
- Be accountable for implementation quality — prompts, guardrails, evals, tests, and review loop that let AI agents ship safe, correct, production-ready code.
- Partner cross-functionally with PM and designer daily, work with engineering peers, and check in weekly with EM.
- Present initiative outcomes 2–4 weeks post-launch and share impact on metrics.
- Maintain high standards for production correctness, security, performance, observability, and user experience.
- Lead AI agents to produce staff-level quality code through prompts, evaluations, tests, and observability workflows.
- Make and document architectural and rollout decisions with architect review on significant calls.
- Ship outcomes measured by key metrics and decide scope to move those metrics effectively.
- Ensure no regressions from agent-authored code reach customers or pros.
Requirements
- Experience shipping with AI coding agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or equivalent in production work.
- Operating at a lead level with decision-making responsibility and ownership of outcomes.
- Outcome-driven mindset focused on metric movement and experience improvement.
- Strong collaboration skills with PMs, designers, and engineering peers in shared codebases.
- Decisive in making architecture, data-model, and rollout decisions with documentation and quick input loops.
- Ability to deliver reusable artifacts — agent workflows, evals, runbooks, post-launch reviews.
- Customer- and pro-minded, caring about marketplace outcomes.
Nice to have
- Experience with PHP/Laravel backend.
- Experience with TypeScript, React, React Native frontend (web and mobile apps).
- Knowledge of data stack: Redshift, dbt, Segment, Airflow.
- Experience with infrastructure: AWS, Datadog, Sentry, GitHub Actions.
- Familiarity with documentation and process tools: Brain (Claude Code skills + docs repo), Confluence, Jira.
Conditions
- Competitive salary of USD $80,000–$100,000 annual base.
- Work from anywhere.
- High ownership and autonomy.
- Fast-moving team that loves to build, learn, and grow.
